Sonondilla

This is a form invented by Charles L. Weatherford the creator of one of the best Poetry learning sites in the English speaking world.

In his own word Charles explains that he devloped to form to play to his own particular strengths:

Creating the "sonondilla, I actually used two existing forms. First was the Petrarchan sonnet; second was the redondilla, a purely syllabic Spanish quatrain with envelope rhyme scheme (abba).

 Based on this mixing, I came up with a fourteen line form that was syllabic, but was also tougher to rhyme than other sonnets. I'm much better at rhyming than a lot of people. (That isn't to say that I don't put out some real klinkers in my light verse.)

 So, the sonondilla's predominant rhyme scheme is abbaabbaccddcc, which is even more difficult than the Petrarchan sonnet. "

redondilla, a Spanish stanza form consisting of four trochaic lines, usually of eight syllables each, with a rhyme scheme of abba. Quatrains in this form with a rhyme scheme of abab, sometimes also called redondillas, are more commonly known as serventesios. Redondillas have been common in Castilian poetry since the 16th century. The word is derived from the Spanish redondo, meaning “round.”

So we have the Sonondilla Sonnet

It should be written in octosyllabic lines.

Meter either iambic or trochaic

Volta to appear at line 9.

My example:

Ambiguity           (Sonondilla)

In ambiguity there's hope

that your misstatement may make sense

to someone sitting on the fence

who's neither voted yep  nor nope.

Thus politician's often cope

with lack of what's called commonsense

by merely giving no offence.

If you don't get it, you're the dope.

You cannot fact check what's not said

Thus inferences that have led

to contrary conclusions are

non-specific, sometimes bizarre.

Turn off the TV, go to bed,

or watch grass grow; you'll be ahead.

Mystique`s Mini Sonnet

This form was invented by  Alberto J. Alvarez G. writing on Allpoetry as

It is Stanzaic with three qutrains and a couplet
It is Syllabic 6/6/7/7 6/6/7/7 6/6/7/7  7/7
It is Rhymed with a Refrain
Rhyme Pattern Aabb cccc Aa cc dd
The Volta starts on the third stanza with the same first line
of the first stanza and it must spin the story into the opposite direction.
The couplet concludes the story.

Example Poem

Her Name's Rose, Watson      (Mystique's Mini Sonnet)

When Watson studied art

the students sat apart

in half-circle seeing view

of object they should sketch true.

Today in still life's place

sat a lass dressed in lace

and pink bows each in their place-

taunting smile upon her face.

When Watson studied art

he left Holmes at the start

but as working on a case

a deduction would take place.

One man's work was titled "Rose"

and he sketched her without clothes.

South African Quilt

This is a form invented by Angela Jacobs,  it was, as I understand her very first sonnet written.

It is defined by the Rhyme scheme: aabb ccdd efg efg

It is presumed that the poet has the choice of meter and line-length.

The volta should occur at or beyond line 9.

Example Poem

 I Loved a Nymph     (South African Quilt)

Most every man believes he wants a maid

whose nymphomania is just displayed

when he and she are intertwined in lust,

and is has shapely form and ample bust.

I found just such a nymphet, by the way,

and we conjoined at least four times a day.

Had I an independent source of wealth

the exercise would have sustained my health.

But should your work or schooling make demands

you must then measure well your final aim,

for her own needs can not take second place.

She will find all attention she commands

there is no lack of guys to play her games.

so you must steel yourself to share with grace.
