Arabian Onegin Sonnet

The author assumes the metric and pivotal requirements are the standard for the sonnet.
Onegin is pronouced Oh NAY gin

Rhyme scheme: AaAa BBbb CdC DDd
Meter: Consistent or iambic pentameter
Structure: Two quatrains followed by two tercets with a pivot or volta at line 9 or line 12
End-line Refrain Words

Example Poem:

Touch My Heart     (Arabian Onegin Sonnet)

When I can't touch you just to show my love
I must find other ways I know, my love.
My acts must speak when pushing comes to shove.
That sense of loss I must now get ridof.

An illness causes you to seem remote
Ignorance let it make me act remote.
As sense of loss had grabbed me by the throat.
Your acts of love alone kept me afloat.

A selfish focus on my loss hid yours,
and fibromyalgia has no cures.
I must convince you dear, my love is yours.

Our music physically was but one realm,
but we've connected on most every realm.
We'll let no losses ever overwhelm.

Gloria cum Noynoy - Italianic

The PGMA Sonnet was invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes
on January 28, 2009 named in honor of:

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (born April 5, 1947) is a Filipino politician who served as the 14th President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010, as the 12th Vice President of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001, and is currently a member of the House of Representatives representing the 2nd District of Pampanga. She was the country's second female president (after Corazón Aquino), and the daughter of former President Diosdado Macapagal.

The PGMA rhyme scheme has been renamed Gloria cum Noynoy Italianic rhyme scheme in memory both of Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her successor Pres. Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III who was her student at Ateneo where she once taught.
"I named a rhyme scheme jointly for the two Philippine presidents as a statement that it was during their presidency that I wrote my 2154 sonnets."  Jose Rizal M. Reyes
Annotated 12/24/2012

rhyming pattern: abba abba cddc dd

Example Poem:

California Grows Nevada     (PGMA Sonnet)

When California raised the rate at which
it taxes the "rich" it assured one thing.
In Nevada, cash registers will ring.
The small businesses won't just stay and bitch.

Some are bound to stay; many though will switch
to states nearby where taxes have less sting.
These states will see a relative upswing.
Increasing taxes simply won't enrich.

Thanks Wilson, for a few more jobs right here
in Nevada; it's appreciated.
Though Dems seem to think it's complicated,
it's really not, to me it is quite clear.

When their quest to tax is finally sated
We could end-up overpopulated.

Glorionic Sonnet

The Glorionic Sonnet is an invented sonnet form inspired by the writing of John Milton. This is a contest form which has been used by many workshops. Introduced by Gloria Martin in 1976 and found in The Study and Writing of Poetry; American Women Poets Discuss Their Craft, 1983.
The Glorionic Sonnet is:
- a quatorzain made up of an octave and a sestet.
- metric, iambic pentameter.
- rhymed, aabbbccc ddedee.
- composed with the pivot in the declamatory end couplet.

Example Poem:

Stink Outside the Box        (Glorionic Sonnet)

A frequent gas from Fred, who is a Fed,
with flatulence has brought things to a head.
His supervisor's getting many calls
from other workers up and down the halls
of stink and paint now peeling off the walls.
There's no report of rumbling says the bunch,
but only smells to make them lose their lunch.
A reprimand won't work, I have a hunch.

A hostile work environment exists;
it will while his condition still persists.
Here's where compromises tried are bound to fail,
and everybody there is getting pissed.
So folks will not go postal- he must bail.
The feds should let poor Fred deliver mail.

Mason Sonnet

The Mason Sonnet is an invented sonnet form created by American poet Madeline Mason in 1953. It is the rhyme scheme that sets this sonnet apart from others. This was found in the Study and Writing of Poetry; American Women Poets Discuss, 1983 and has been used in workshops
throughout the US

* a quatorzain made up of a octave and a sestet.
* metered, iambic pentameter.
Rhyme pattern: abcabcbc dbadda
* composed with a pivot developed after the octave.

Example Poem:

Grow up Slowly        (Mason Sonnet)

I like to go to grammas' after school.
I show her what I learned today then play,
or learn a lot of stuff not in a book.
She showed me how to milk a cow. That's cool.
She showed me on the internet today.
But best of all she lets me help her cook!
We made gingerbread cookies; Grandpa took
a lot so I think they turned out okay.

Don't know what I'll  be when my growing's done,
A cook? A fireman? It's too hard to say.
If you think I change my mind a lot, you'll
be right. My mom says choosing's half the fun.
"Take time to be a  kid and play and run."
Right now that's my grandparent's golden rule.

John Tee Sonnet

A Refrain Sonnet
Rhyme Scheme: ABcdefABghijAB.
No meter or line length specified.
Quatorzain with no stanzas.

Example Poem:

A Poet's First Year    ( John Tee Sonnet )

"How was year twenty-twelve"? she asked.
It leaves me richer far in friends.
These friends I've never met, and yet
I've learned from them and shared a bond
that fellow workers never shared.
Their humor, and their pain's been mine.
"How was year twenty-twelve"? she asked.
It leaves me richer far in friends.
They pushed me to exceed my goal
to write a poem a day, and thus
I've built for them a great resource,
for sonnet forms for work and play.
"How was year twenty-twelve"? she asked.
It leaves me richer far in friends.

Canadian Sonnet - Italian Structure

This is a form invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines
Unique in  presentation as 2 quatrains + 2 Tercets
Generally Iambic Pentameter
Volta at line 9
Rhyme Scheme: abba cddc eff egg
Same rhyme pattern as Bowlesian Sonnet.

Example Poem:

Today's Best     ( Canadian  Sonnet - Italian Structure )

The editor demands my very best
with ocean's depth and pictures for one's mind.
Let waterfalls of syllables combine
while melodies of sounds they manifest.

Just that and nothing less is all that's asked.
The pen is poised and pauses while I think -
perhaps I scratch my beard and sip a drink,
before returning, determined, to my task.

Oh, hell! How often does one sit to write
a piece of crap to merely fill a page?
Real poets don't do that in any age.

We never set out trying to be trite.
Our very best attempt are made in vain
When mind's creative cogs get clogged again.

French Canadian Sonnet

This is a form invented by Jose Rizal M. Reyes of the Philippines

2 quatrain + couplet + quatrain
Pentamer or Hexamter
Volta at line 9
Rhyme Scheme: abba cddc ee fggf

Example Poem:

Squawk Talk                        (French Canadian Sonnet)

"I need to have a word with you," the seagull said.
"You armed with notepad, looking pensively astute."
"Yes, muse," I mumbled, "go ahead,  you're being cute."
The seagull squawked and startled me then turned his head.

"You dolt on doves and rave about the ravens' clout,
you're high on nightingales, and hummingbirds, and owls.
You write of raptors' might as they kill birds and fowls
Yet we're ignored almost. Explain what that's about."

"Opportunistic, smart, existing everywhere
with precocial chicks  and flight, why do you care?

Like man you find your food almost in anyplace,
and flock with mobbing to dissuade aggressive foes.
You're species' success seems to far outweigh your woes.
and by the way we do admire your flying grace.

Word Sonnet

Introduced originally in 1985 by New Formalist, American poet Brad Leithauser.
It has been quite popularized.  I find no formal specifications, so interpret as follows.
Quatorzain
One word per line
Consists of three quatrains plus a couplet
Volta at poets option.
I feel that to use other than an established sonnet rhyme pattern would be neglect.

Example Poem:

Diligent Shopping  ( Word Sonnet)

Pensive-
good
food
Expensive.

Tasteful
home
grown
unwasteful.

Convenient,
beer
here -
lenient.

But
What?

Germanic Caudated Sonnet

This a form of the super sonnet class invented by
Jose Rizal M. Reyes on June 9, 2009 This is a triple tailed sonnet
abba bccb cddc dd / dee dff dgg
3 quatrains + couplet + 3 tercets
natural place for the volta is line 13, but poet may choose.

Example poem:

Envy then Punish the Rich      (Germanic Caudated Sonnet)

In every age some chosen few have ruled
despite the form of government in place.
Laws are the tools that often bring disgrace
Eventually when power's overruled.

Entrusted senators, to win their race
now tell the public what it wants to hear.
Views shared with some are hushed, but its clear
your wants  will yield to those more highly placed.

Rich men can fund campaigns and make appear
Innumerable chances to obtain
considerable wealth with little pain.
Handshake contracts let fairness disappear.
`
Indeed we viewed the scoundrels with disdain
no doubt, but set our course to our own gain.

Occupy Wall street  meant that one would train
until they could perform those jobs that paid
real bucks for successful decisions made.

Some joined those rich, and walked in their terrain
and moved their family's fortunes up a rung,
denouncing whining as song to be sung.

Alas our masses want the rich contained;
government must now give punishment to those
employers rising in the path they chose.

It happens that this poem is also an acrostic sonnet.
